Sat Sun Medicated Oil

I am on day 25 of not being able to run. Maybe it’s time I see Dr. Brown? Not sure what the best solution is at this point. Some say lay off for a couple of weeks, others say it’s time for me to go to the doctor… it’s hard to say since it varies so much. When I went home, momma immediately supplied me with Chinese ointments, sprays and tea baths to try mend her babe’s broken foot.

This one medicine, Sat Sun or snow mountain oil, is a wonder ointment. It CURES EVERYTHING apparently, and you can even drink it! This little bottle I have is probably older than me and was probably smuggled from Malaysia. I am pretty sure they don’t even manufacture this anymore. But really, it works great on bruises and sores! Unfortunately, it has not been particularly helpful with my current condition, but I thought you might like to see that it should. Anyone pricked by nails lately?

If you can’t read the directions, here is the list of illnesses it claims to treat—it’s even illustrated!!

1. Old or New Wounds
2. Burns or Boils
3. Ear Discharge
4. Itchiness and Scabies
5. Pain of the Hip Joints
6. Stomach Ache or Gastric
7. Hurt Ear
8. Paralysis or Numbness
9. Bites form Poisonous Creatures
10. Swelling of the Cheeks

Central time

Whoa. I’m back! Armed with a new laptop, I’m on the road and back in Chicago for a week to visit family, sightsee, celebrate a friend’s wedding, and eat as much food as possible. And, I really couldn’t be happier there aren’t below zero wind chills and blizzard like conditions!

Nope, instead of inclement weather holding me back, I have a lame foot. I was supposed to run the Super Jock n’ Jill Half Marathon this past Labor Day, but due to my rookie behavior, I seem to have broken my foot (not literally) and now have a fine limp to match my dad’s. We really make quite a pair. Word of advice for all you semi-new runners, please remember to replace your shoes. Even at 300 miles, my Mizunos kicked it and turned to mush.

So these days, I’m sporting the PNW look. I’m so sporty! Check out these new Brooks
I’ll be wearing around the Windy City with my lame foot and North Face raincoat.
(Goodbye cute flats and skirts, I’ll miss you.)

Rock n' Roll

Last Saturday I ran my first half marathon in Seattle’s inaugural Rock n’ Roll Marathon. Despite last minute shin splints, traffic backups, and port-o-potty waiting lines, I made it through the race in 2:08:38! Next up: Super Jock n’ half marathon in September. (Now if only my bruised toes would heal!)

Beat it.

Yesterday I participated in my first race, The Nordstrom Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes 8K, as a warm up to the biggie half-marathon in June. Despite my rookie moves in getting to the event, overdressing, and ankle chip woes (bloody chips!), I managed to “beat the bridge” and ran over University Bridge right before it went up at the 2-mile marker. Starting with the third wave of runners, I finished the race in 45:12, coming in at 131 of 443.

My reward? Biscuits and gravy at the Shanty and some lovely orchids waiting for me at home! (On a side note, I think I’ll have to keep running just so I can start a new numbers collection.)
