Secret Project!

Today’s a special day! I am featured on my friend Kate’s blog, Mi Piace Kate Design. Kate lives in San Francisco where she’s busy being a grad student. Her site is quite popular and has even been featured on Design Sponge. So even if you don’t want to see MY secret project, you should check out the rest of her blog. Be warned, you’ll probably be hungry afterwards!

Post-birthday present?

Secretly, I love astrology.* I just saw this necklace by Kimberly Baker, a local jewelry designer here in Seattle. I’ve been looking for a Cancer-inspired necklace for some time now, ever since I spotted one at Barneys a year ago, but I especially like the simplicity (and price tag) of this style. This would have been a perfect birthday present to myself last month, when I was being particularly crabby!

*I miss you, Lucy!

I want this skirt.

Yesterday, I was reading Daily Candy when I saw this editor’s pick featuring a Heidi Merrick skirt at Target. It’s being featured on Target’s site under their “red hot shop”, a monthly dose of chic, unique and sometimes offbeat. Obviously, I am all of those things, so I clicked on the link and loved the items being featured (Composition bag! Anti-theft sammy bags? um, yes please!), including designer goodies that have been featured in design and home magazines.

Since I love Target… and I still read Daily Candy (even if it was bought by Comcast), I hope this little collaboration continues. I am always search for fun new things, and glad that Target still continues to make good design available to the masses. The real challenge, however is finding these items in the store. I worry that most of these items you will only find online, and if they are being featured on Daily Candy, they’re gonna sell fast they’re so hot!

But anyway, back to the skirt— I love the colors and ikat pattern. Ikat is a weaving technique used in Indonesian, South American and Native American cultures. I was just discussing with my friend that this style appears to be the upcoming trend for fall (or we’re just way behind on the west coast). Just today I was browsing through Nordstrom and there was an entire table of adorable moccasins and boots on display trying to tempt me. I admit I own a pair of Ugg! moccasins that I will never throw away, but I’m not so sure I can pull off hippie fringe boots? For now I’ll just obsess about this skirt.

Charley Harper Love

I’m a big fan of Charley Harper, an artist from Cincinnati, famous for his animal illustrations. I still regret having lost an old Louisville Zoo poster that I had in my loft space in Chicago (sorry, Z) back in the day.

Thanks to Todd Oldham and his book that was published a couple of years ago, Harper has been become increasingly popular. You can see Harper’s illustrations now in note cards, children’s books and even shoes! The latest— lovely accessories by Celine Women’s:

Last night's shoes

For those that know me, I love my shoes. And since it would be ridiculous to keep every pair I own, I started documenting them in 2003, when I got my first digital camera. So what started as a simple photo project, has really become a chronicle of where I’ve been the past 5 (or so) years.

On that note, my friend Michael sent me this fun link. Now, why didn’t I think of that?
